Air Pistol Section

 

This is an active section with over 25 members who range in standard from beginners to British Champions and in age from teenagers to pensioners. Members shoot in national, county postal leagues and shoulder-to-shoulder matches in the Portsmouth area in a variety of disciplines. Additionally members of all standards travel to national and county championships where they achieve success in all classes. 10 METRE PRECISION

This is an Olympic event. The competition is shot over 60 shots in a time of 1hour 45 minutes for men and 40 shots in1 hour 15 minutes for women. The top eight competitors then shoot a ten shot Olympic final. In the final all eight competitors shoot each shot in a 75 seconds window. The shots are then scored from 10.9 downwards by 0.1 points and added to the competitor’s total. This is the how the British Championships are run.

In NSRA postal leagues the course of fire is 20 shots with 8 teams in each league. The cards are posted to the scorers and the results sent to NSRA. The section usually enters 3 or 4 teams in the NSRA postal leagues; currently there are teams in division 1, 6 and 8. During the past 10 years the club has had many successful results.

Individuals and teams are entered into the Hampshire, Dorset and Bedford postal leagues with great success.

STANDARD PISTOL

The course of fire for postal competition in this event is 2 times 5 shots in 150 seconds, 2 times 5 shots in 20 seconds and 2 times 5 shots in 10 seconds. It cannot be shot with single shot air pistols only with 5 shot air pistols. Most people use their own air guns although the club does have a 5 shot pistol for members to use. The competitions can be shot at 10 metres or 20 yards depending on who is running the competition. The club has a team in the NSRA league shooting at 20 yards and a team in the Hampshire league shooting at 10 metres.

SPORTS PISTOL

This competition is in two halves both at 10 metres. In the first the competitor shots a number of shots precision followed by the same number of shots on a turning target with the target face visible for 3 seconds and sides way on for 7 seconds. The club has two teams in the NSRA postal competition and have been successful. A single shot air pistol can shoot it, as 7 seconds is ample time to load and prepare for the next shot.
